A haven of bio diversity, the Nokrek National Park is located in the West Garo Hills district in the Indian state of Meghalaya. It is the core area of the Nokrek Biosphere Reserve, which is on a hilly terrain. The biosphere reserve contains major rivers and streams that form a perennial catchment system. The Nokrek National Park is located on the mountain of same name, which is the highest peak of the Garo Hills, rising at an elevation of 1,412 m.

Flora and Fauna of Nokrek National Park
Blessed with a unique flora and fauna, the Nokrek National Park is a thriving sanctuary for the population of wildlife. This is one of those national parks of Meghalaya, which is world famous for its red panda, which are currently listed as one of the endangered species. The national park is an important habitat for the Asian elephants, along with 8 species of cats and 7 species of primates. Animals like the marbled cat to tiger, the rare stump tailed macaque, the pig tailed macaque and the Hoolock gibbons are common in the park. The Nokrek National Park is also an important bird sanctuary.

The mother germoplasm of Citrus Indica is found here. Other than these, all the important rivers and streams of the Garo Hills region rise from the ranges of the Nokerk Biosphere Reserve. Exception being the Simsang River, also known as Someshwari River, one of the most prominent rivers in this area emerges into Bangladesh at Baghmara and flows through Nokrek National Park. Visiting Information on Nokrek National Park To experience the wilderness of the national park, the best time to visit is during the months of October to May. Located 45 km from Tura in West Garo hills district with William Nagar being the nearest town at a distance of 15 km, the Guwahati railway station is the closest at a distance of 160 km from the national park. And the Guwahati Airport is the nearest at a distance of about 140 km from the Nokrek National Park.
