At a distance of about 144 km northwest of Hyderabad, a reservoir known by the name of Nizamsagar was constructed across the Manjira River, a tributary of the Godavari River. The dam is constructed between Achampet and Banjapalle villages of the Nizamabad district in Andhra Pradesh, India.
The site of the Nizam Sagar Dam is noted for its superb scenic beauty. The most exceptional feature of the project is the massive masonry dam standing across the river for 3 km with a motorable road of 14ft width over it. The place Nizam Sagar Dam is considered as one of the important tourist spots with excellent boarding and lodging facilities in and around this dam. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalay is located adjacent to the reservoir. Large volume of water from this river and the reservoir is send to the twin cities - Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Thus the district of Nizamabad is facing acute water problem.
There is a beautiful garden under Nizam Sagar Project and is adjacent to the Nizam Sagar Dam. from Hyderabad is the main highway that leads to this dam and beautiful garden. Being a tourist spot, the surroundings of the Nizam Sagar Dam are facilitated with swimming pool and guesthouses. During the monsoons many people visit from Karnataka, Maharashtra and neighboring districts like Medak, Karimnagar and Hyderabad. Boating facility has been introduced in the reservoir of the Nizam Sagar Dam.
