Establishment of Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences
Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences was established under the Act of Andhra Pradesh State Legislature. Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences was established with some principal objectives and the objectives include creating a Centre of Excellence for providing medical care, educational and research facilities of high order in the field of medical science, in Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for 10 years.

Objective of Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences
The objective of Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences was to create the order in the existing super specialties and such other super specialties that may develop in future, including continuing Medical Education and Hospital Administration. The second objective of the NIMS was to develop patterns of teaching in post graduate level and in super specialties with a view to set a high standard of medical education.

Facilities of Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences
Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) of Hyderabad also had some other objectives that include providing training in paramedical and allied fields, particularly in relation to Super-Specialties, functioning as a referral hospital. Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) is intended in providing post graduate teaching and conducting research in the relevant disciplines of modern medicine and allied sciences, including interdisciplinary fields of physical and Biological sciences, as well. The NIMS is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Medical Council of India (MCI). The institute has also been offering several courses under different disciplines, in order to achieve its objectives.

Administration of Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences
The Governing Council, Executive Board, Director and other statutory bodies supervise the administration of the Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad. The institute comprises a number of 27 Departments, out of which, 14 are super and Broad Specialties and others are Supporting Departments. Having bed strength of 946 beds, the average number of out-patients visiting the hospital per day is about 1100, and the number of in-patients admitted per day is about 90. The NIMS has been included in the list of Universities maintained by the UGC under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.

The departments of Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) include Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Biochemistry, Cardiology, Microbiology, Cardio Thoracic Surgery, Nuclear Medicine, Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Pathology, Chest Clinic, Radiology & Image logy, Dental, Transfusion Medicine, Dermatology, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Gastroenterology, General Medicine, Gynaecology, Medical Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neuro Surgery, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Physiotherapy, Plastic Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Rheumatology, Surgical Gastroenterology, Surgical Oncology, Urology and Vascular Surgery.
