Nisha Millet is a former Indian swimmer who has won numerous medals at national as well as international levels along with receiving Prime Minister’s Best Sportswoman Award twice.

Nisha Millet, Indian SwimmerNisha Millet is an Indian sports personality, prominently known as a swimmer. She hails from the city of Bengaluru in Karnataka. She is the recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award, an honour presented for her contribution in the flied of sports. In the 2000 Sydney Olympics swim team, she was the only representative of India. Nisha Millet was born on 20th March 1982. Her professional career spanned for about 16 years.

Career of Nisha Millet
Nisha Millet began swimming at the tender age of 9 in the year 1991. She won her first medal in the following year, 1992, at the sub junior nationals. She received her initial coaching from her father at the Dolphin club in Chennai. At the age of 12 she exhibited her potential by winning 4 Gold Medals at the Senior National Championships, organized in Goa. Following this, her family shifted to Bengaluru to provide the required impetus to her swimming career. Nisha Millet then proceeded further in this arena and represented the country at various competitions at international level. After being trained under the tutelage of coach Pradeep Kumar at the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre she went on to represent India in Olympics at the 2000 Summer Olympics held in Sydney. Nisha Millet is also credited as the only Indian sports person to have won 14 gold medals ever at the 1999 national games organized at Manipur along with winning the Prime Minister"s Best Sportswoman Award twice.

Nisha Millet has now retired from her professional swimming career of 16 years after winning 600 gold medals at different competitions at national and international levels. Post retirement, she is working as a swimming instructor at various clubs in Bengaluru including the Catholic Club. She is also associated with the establishment of a coaching facility, especially swim coaching, for improving the standards of coaching in the country.

Achievements of Nisha Millet
Nisha Millet has been conferred with various awards for her excellence in the field of swimming. She won Prime Minister"s Award for Best Sportswoman of the national games twice in the year 1997 and 1999. She won highest number of gold medals, 14, in sports in the Manipur National Games in the year 1999. In 2000 she won the Arjuna Award while in the following year she got Rajyotsava Award. In 2002 she won the Karnataka State Ekalavya Award whereas in 2003 she received Afro-Asian Games, Women"s Backstroke Silver Medal.
