History of temple and God
The six meter long statue of reclining Lord Buddha enrich the temple. It is believed that the very last moment of Lord Buddha is represented in this statue. It reveals the moments before he attained Mahaparinirvana. The sculpture was found during the excavations of 1876. This statue is carved from Chunar sandstone. An inscription that is seen below the statue, states that the statue had been built in the fifth century AD.
