Lord ShivaNilalohita is believed to be the name of Rudra according to Vaishnava Purana. Lord Shiva is called Nilalohita as he has a mixed facial appearance of blue and red colors. The Nilalohita form indicates his fiery form as fire-flames display red and black colors in upper and lower portions of the body respectively. As Lord Shiva is the direct deity of fire he is known as Nilalohita

Sometimes the combination of red face and blue neck is called Nilalohita. The Indian Puranas state that Lord Brahma did a sacrifice in order to attain Lord Shiva as his son. Due to the heat of the sacrifice perspiring drops of blue and red colors came out. Rudra got manifested from these drops of blue and red and thereby he was called Nilalohita. In spiritual science ignorance is blue and knowledge is red. Lord Shiva destroys ignorance, so he is known as Nilalohita. He is considered as the predecessor of all Gods.
