Nehru Children`s Museum, Kolkata, West BengalNehru Children`s Museum is a tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and was established in 14th November, 1972 on his birthday. The motive behind this project was to educate children in a play-way method. Understanding children`s psychology, here the technique of sharing knowledge is based through toys and games, which makes the study easier and less stressful and more acceptable to the children.

Nehru Children`s Museum is a project of National Cultural Association, founded in 1945. It was completed under the Founder Director Jugal Srimal, a visionary statesman who tried to make people aware from various social ills and to educate children through entertainment and visual aids.

It is a four storey building which is divided into separate galleries.

Dolls Gallery- This gallery of Nehru Children`s Museum consists dolls from 88 countries in fashionable dresses. Children are fond of dolls and toys and this gallery is helpful to provide them awareness of the world, its culture and about the people along with their fashionable dresses.


Toy Gallery- The separate Toy Gallery in the Nehru Children Museum fills with a sense of dreamland. It comprises a collection of toys of different nature. A break from the formal study hours is worthwhile for all children.


Mahabharata Gallery- Mahabharata, one of the two Indian epic is found here. All the characters are shown here through clay models. These clay models are arranged in a series which portrays the entire story in an attractive way. This process attracts both children and their parents to the Nehru Children`s Museum.

Ramayana Gallery- The entire story of Ramayana and its events are described here through clay idols. All the characters and events of Ramayana such as Rama, Ravana etc are portrayed through these small idols.

Apart from providing knowledge to children through toys and games, epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata, Nehru Children`s Museum also provides several other activities such as scholarships and awards handicapped and underprivileged children through its different other projects such as, Ankur, Vidyasagar Sishu Acadamy and Vidyasagar Academy Centre for Computer.

Thus, Nehru Children`s Museum stands as the dream world and a perfect place for children where they can shape their future.
