Constructed by Shah Bagh Khan, this temple was erected for the Hindu wife of Mughal emperor Akbar. This ancient temple is considered as one of the most sacred shrines of the area. The temple is often visited by a number of devotees who perform a number of rituals and organize a number of ceremonies. As a major pilgrimage centre, it is often visited by the local people as well as those who visit from far off places.

Location of Neelkanth Mahadev`s Temple
It is located in the Madhya Pradesh state of India. It is situated at a distance of 3 kms from the main road. This is one of the oldest temples constructed nearby the Neelkantha palace of Mandu.

Architecture of Neelkanth Mahadev`s Temple
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is built with large stones. Constructing temples with large stones is an important part of Mughal architecture. The walls of the temple feature elegant designs. The temple is surrounded by a number of trees. The enclosure of the shrine faces a sacred pond that receives water from its nearest stream. The shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva`s Neelkantha incarnation which shows the poisoned throat of Lord Shiva that turned blue due to the poison. As such, the temple is named after the Neelkantha figure of Lord Shiva. Though the temple has an ancient Shiva lingum, the temple was named as Neelkantha Temple. Thus as a major pilgrimage, it is another sight which is visited by the tourists who visit Mandu.

Nearby Attraction of Neelkanth Mahadev`s Temple
The nearby attraction of this ancient temple is Neel Kanth Palace. The palace is located very close to the temple. It was too built by the Mughal governor, Shah Badgah Khan. The architecture of the palace is a treat to the history lovers. The palace offers a magnificent view of the valley below. The main portion of the Palace is enclosed by rooms to its west, south and east. However, the northern portion is being kept open to let people enjoy the view of the valley.
