Naukuchia Tal is located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. More specifically, this lake is situated in the district of Nainital. It is also well known as the "lake of nine corners".

Naukuchia Tal is mentioned in Indian Mythology, according to which this lake was created after hard worship (also known as tap in Hindi) of Brahma ji. A small temple dedicated to Brahma ji is also located near the KMVN (Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam) guesthouse. Locals of the lake region hold a belief that anyone performing a parikarma of the lake will be blessed by Brahma ji and can attain Nirvana, which is considered to be a soulful state of bliss and eternity.

Naukuchia Tal is situated at an elevation of about 1220 meters above sea level at the foothills of Kumaon Himalaya Mountains. It has a depth of about 175 feet. In fact, this lake is known to be the deepest of all the lakes in the Nainital region. The length of the lake is near about 983 meters and its breadth has been estimated near about 693 meters. An underground perennial spring forms the water source of this lake. Naukuchai Tal has wide variety of wildlife and birds. It is also a home to rare collections of butterflies.
