The university conducts undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Engineering and Architecture and Doctor of Philosophy programme in Engineering, Pure Science and Humanities. The genesis of this university lies on Regional Engineering College, Hamirpur which was set up if the year 1986 by the Government of Himachal Pradesh in collaboration with Government of India. It was given the status of deemed university by the Government of India in the year 2002.
