National Institute of Technology is one of the thirty National Institutes of Technology that is administered and funded by Government of India. The university conducts undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Engineering and Architecture and Doctor of Philosophy programme in Engineering, Pure Science and Humanities. The genesis of this university lies on Regional Engineering College, Hamirpur which was set up if the year 1986 by the Government of Himachal Pradesh in collaboration with Government of India. It was given the status of deemed university by the Government of India in the year 2002.
The departments in the University are: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Management and Social Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Energy and Environment, Material Science and Mathematics.
