Nandikeshwari Temple is located in earlier Nandipur village, which is now a part of Sainthia town, Birbhum district, West Bengal.

History of Nandikeshwari Temple
Nandikeshwari Temple in Sainthia is one of the popular temples here. Sainthia is known as business capital of Birbhum district and it is famous for its temple of Nandikeshwari. Nandikeshwari temple is one of the 51 Shakti peethas. The town is sanctified by the river Kopai and Maa Nandikeshwari, the Holy Goddess. This is the temple where Sati`s neck-bone fell. Maa Nandikeshwari is believed to be present in a big mounted rock, deeped with vermillion, in the shape of the back of a tortoise. She is adorned with a silver crown and three golden eyes.

The festivals are held especially in Baishakhi Purnima or the Buddha Purnima (full moon day), with yagna. The special rituals in Nandikeshwari Temple are also held on Kali Puja and on Amabasyas (new moon).

Architecture of Nandikeshwari Temple
Nandikeshwari Temple does not have the architectural excellence. On wall of the temple, there are beautiful paintings of many Gods and Goddesses. Inside the temple premise there are many other temples of Dashabvataar, Lord Vishnu, Lord Hanuman, Ram-Sita, Nabadurga, Lord Shiva or Mahadeva and some more. The atmosphere around the temple is very calm and tranquil and is far away from din and bustle of the city.

Visiting Information
Sainthia is known as business capital of Birbhum district and it is famous for its temple of Nandikeshwari. Nandikeshwari Temple is located very near to Sainthia railway station under a banyan tree within a boundary wall. There are many direct buses starting from various places in Birbhum. If one wants to reach through Railway route, one have to stop at Sainthia Railway station and the walking distance is hardly 10 minutes. There is the temple of Lord Jagannath located on the main road just beside the main temple.
