As per Hindu legends Nanda was the leader of the cowherds and brother of Radha. Nanda was the foster father of Lord Krishna. It was Nanda`s care to the baby Krishna when Kansa sought to destroy the child.

Nanda is also the name of one of the sons of Vasudeva.

Again Nanda is a son of Mahananda. Nanda is often called Mahapadma, because he was greedy. Nanda brought the whole earth under one umbrella. He had eight sons, or descendants who governed for a hundred years. Later the Brahman Kautilya causes the downfall of the dynasty and placed Chandragupta on the throne.
