Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary located in Assam houses a variety of animals, birds and reptiles. It also bordered with tropical forests and the vast low-lying plains.

Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary, AssamNambor Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Karbi Anglong District in Central Assam. The sanctuary is situated amidst the beautiful Himalayan forests that remains enveloped with tropical forests and the vast low-lying plains. This area is in the tropical basin of India and as a result of that the temperatures are never too high or low; with a very heavy monsoon. The max-min temperature is 8 to 30oC. Annual rainfall is 2500 mm.

Nambor Wildlife sanctuary covers an area of 37 sq. km. This moderately sized sanctuary is 25 km from Golaghat and 65 km from the renowned Kaziranga National Park. The sanctuary is also bordered by other nearby located wildlife sanctuaries like Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary, Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary and East Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary.

Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary is situated amidst an oasis of idyllic green and dotted by sylvan water bodies. The sanctuary serves as a shelter for wild animals like the elephants, Gaur, Bears, Sambar, Barking deer, Rhesus macaque, Hoolock gibbon, wild pigs, predatory Royal Bengal Tigers and others. The sanctuary also houses variety of exotic migratory as well as domestic birds. These are rich in terrestrial woodland birds. Different types of reptiles like Python, Cobra, Monitor lizards can also be spotted here. Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary has also been the entomologists` favourite place who spends time here studying and investigating the varieties of insects, butterflies and moths that flitter about the sanctuary.

Nambor is also famous for the most important Hot Spring Lake, which is locally known as Garam Pani. The medicinal properties of water of Hot Spring Lake are well known. The sanctuary can be reached From Dimapur Airport it is only 55 kms and from Jorhat Airport it is 85 kms away. The road distances from nearest Towns are - Golaghat -35 kms, Diphu -92 kms. Guwahati - 330 kms and Kohora is 70 kms away. The best time to visit the sanctuary is during the months of November to April.
