Nakhayi Kolin is a famous folk dance performed in the Maharashtra state of India. This is a duet dance which is performed by a male and a female. The male dancer is known as a Nakhavi or captain while the female dancer is known as Kolin who acts as his wife.

Performance of Nakhayi Kolin
While dancing, the Kolin puts her left hand on the left hip and holds a scarf in her right hand. She then sways from side to side moving her body with separated feet. The male dancer on the other hand holds a glass in one hand and a liquor bottle in the other. He pours this liquor in the glass at intervals and offers it to the Kolin.

There is another variation to this dance and is known as Nakta or snub nosed. This is a trio dance where the snub nosed or Nakta and the Koli and his wife performs. The Nakta is the clown who puts on a mask while performing the dance who provides laughter and entertainment to the villagers specially the children.
