Music of Uttarakhand reflects the cultural tradition and their lifestyle. Uttarakhandi folk music is based on festivals, religious traditions, folk stories and simple lifestyle of the people there. The different types of folk songs of that area include ceremonial mandals, martial panwaras and melancholy khuded, thadya and jhoda.
The Musical instruments that are used in the music of Uttarakhand music include the dhol, damoun, turri, ransingha, dholki, daur, thali, bhankora and masakbhaja. Instruments like Tabla and harmonium are used though comparatively less. The Music of Uttarakhand has witnessed development and has undergone transformation during the course of time.
Mohna Upreti is a popular music personality who is associated with Kumaoni Folk Music. He is known for his Nanda Devi Jagar and Rajula Malu Shahi Ballad. He is also known for the Kumaoni song Bedu Pako Baro Masa. Shri Gopal Babu Goswami is considered as a marvel in Kumaon for his harmonious voice. His songs was based on the members of the armed forces and their families like Kaile baje muruli , Ghughuti na basa and many others.
Shri Narendra Singh Negi is considered to be the voice of Garhwal region. Chander Singh Rahi is the other popular singer and a balladeer. His recordings are considered as the most authentic to the hills. He incorporates several legends and folk tales into his songs.
