Murud Beach, MaharashtraMurud Beach in Maharashtra is located on the rugged coastline of the Konkan region near Alibaug. Murud is a small town about 11 km from the Dapoli Beach. Murud Beach has a long and scenic stretch of white sand with clear bluish waters stretching almost 1.75 km along the coastline, with swaying palms and ancient forts and temples which are its primary attractions.

Tourism in Murud Beach
Murud Beach consists of the ancient temple of Goddess Durga. The Durga Devi temple; located on the main road was built way back in the 18th century. There is a lovely pond located near the Durga Devi Temple. The carvings of the Durga Devi Temple are built up of with the wooden pillars. A large bell hangs above the left side of the entrance. It is said that after winning the battle of Vasai, Chimaji Appa - the great Maratha warrior had brought that bell from one of the churches.

Known to be the abode of the eagle, the Murud Beach offers delicious and fresh seafood straight from the Arabian Sea. One can also enjoy the pure vegetarian, home-made Konkani cuisine at some of the houses nearby.

The white sands of the Murud Beach attract tourists and are well suited for walking, jogging or simply having a good time. If lucky, the tourists would also be able to watch the white bellied sea eagle, white backed vultures and sea gulls. The Olive Ridley sea turtles can also be spotted in Murud Beach.

Maharshi Karve Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve, who established the first Indian University for women (SNDT), hailed from Murud. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1958. One can also visit the museum which is dedicated to this great man. Near Murud Beach, there are also other famous tourist attractions like Janjira fort, Kasa Fort, Korlai fort, which are architectural marvels in itself. Then there are the Khokari Tombs, Victoria water works, Phansad wildlife sanctuary, Kude Buddhist caves, Sawat Kada waterfalls, Datta Mandir temple, Eidgah open mosque, Sir Sidi Ahmed Khan Palace, Siddhi Vinayak Mandir, and the Birla mandir temple among others.

Visiting Information on Murud Beach
To reach Murud Beach from Mumbai, one can go via Alibag- Revdanda- Kashid route. One can also reach it via Roha on the Konkan Railway which is about 35 km from the beach. The Murud Beach is also accessible via State Transport bus or by private vehicle. The nearest airport is the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.
