The Mula Dam was build with the objective to supply drinking water to the nearby towns like Rahuri and Ahmednagar.

Also known as Dnyaneshwarsagar Dam, the Mula Dam is one of the major sources of water in the Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra. The Mula Dam was constructed in 1974 and is the biggest dam in Ahmednagar. The Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidhyapeeth is a popular teaching institution, lying close to this dam. The Mula Dam has become one of the major tourist places in the state for its scenic surrounding. Several amenities like rest houses and restaurants are built close to the dam.
