Established in 1979 and located in Bangaluru, the MS Ramaiah Medical College is considered to be one of the premiere medical institutions in the state of Karnataka. The college has been working on achieving some certain aims and objectives since its inception and has already earned a lot of recognition in all over India. The institute is quite famous in abroad also. The institute is located in a premise adjoining the famous Indian Institute of Science, in Bangaluru and is has an adjoining teaching hospital with 1050 beds, as well. The hospital is named as the MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital.

MBBS being the main undergraduate course, the institute also offers the postgraduate courses like MD, MS and PG Diplomas. The institute admits a total of 150 students in its MBBS course, every year and the degree is recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI), since 1986. Though the college was initially affiliated to the Bangalore University, until 1996, it is now affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), since 1996-97. The RGUHS is the Health University for the state of Karnataka. The MS Ramaiah Medical College, Bangaluru has got recognition from the WHO, General Medical Council U.K. (GMC), Irish Medical Council, Malaysian Medical Council, Srilankan Medical Council & all the councils in Middle East, as well.

Apart from the undergraduate MBBS Degree Course, the MS Ramaiah Medical College, Bangaluru offers the PG Degree courses like MD in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, General Medicine, Paediatrics, Anesthesiology, Radio-diagnosis, and Radiotherapy. The other PG course is MS in General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology and Orthopaedics, and also the Masters in Hospital Administration (MHA). The main PG Diploma courses offered by the institute include PG Diploma in Child Health (DCH), D`Ortho, DGO (Obstetrics & Gynaecology), Diploma in DVD (Venerology and Dermatology), DMRD (Radio Diagnosis), D.A. (Anesthesiology), and DO (Ophthalmology).

According to the admission criterion set by the MS Ramaiah Medical College, Bangaluru, the candidates are required to have passed 12th standard and should have obtained 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (taken together). They are also required to have passed English as one of the subjects. The age of the candidates should be at least 17 years on the 31st December of the year of admission and the foreign nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs) and People of Indian Origin, should submit due papers as proof of their identity. Some of the candidates are also required to have the eligibility certificate from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) to pursue medical education programmes in the state of Karnataka.
