Moreh is a town located on the India-Myanmar border in the Tengnoupal District of Manipur. It is a commercial town, which attracts a large number of people from neighboring places. It is only 5 km away from Tamu, its Myanmar counterpart. The recent opening of the Border trade turned Moreh into an important commercial hub of North-East India. Moreh town is inhabited by Kuki, with Tamil, Nepali, Meitei, Punjabi, Telugu, Bihari, Marwari and Muslim Pangals. Meitei and Kuki are the official languages of this town.

According to the 2011 census, Moreh had a population of 16,847, out of which 8,670 were males and 8,177 were females. The town had an average literacy of 71.47 percent; male literacy rate was 79.52 percent and female literacy rate was 62.88 percent. 14.58 percent of the population was under 6 years of age.
Economy of Moreh
Moreh plays a major role in the development of the economy of Manipur. There are 40 tradable items under the Barter Trade mechanism through Moreh. Major export items are cement, engineering goods, transport equipment, motor cycles, iron and steels, medicine, chemicals and allied products, cotton yarn, etc. Some imported items from Myanmar are betel nuts, turmeric, red kidney beans (Rajma), kuth roots, gram, resin, dry ginger, etc.
