Moonak is a small town located in the southern part of Sangrur district of the northern state of India, Punjab. It is located in the south of Sangrur, the district headquarters at a distance of 60 km. Formerly Moonak was known as Akalgarh. The nearest access points are the Jakhal Junction Railway Station at a distance of 20 km. and the Ludhiana airport.
As per the Indian Census report of 2001, Moonak had a population of 14, 928. To be specific, the males constitute 53% of the population and females comprises of the remaining 47%. In Moonak, 16% of the population is less than the six years of age. The Census report also throws light on the literacy rate of Moonak, which is 52%. It is lower than the national average literacy rate, which is 59.5%. The male literacy rate is 58% and the female literacy rate is 45%.
