Mohammed Mujib was a popular name in the field of Urdu theatre. He was born in Lucknow in the year 1902. After achieving early education at that place and in Dehra Dun, he went to Oxford in 1919. He completed his graduation and then he lived in Germany for four years, studying German and Russian. On returning to India in 1926, he joined Jamia Millia University, Delhi, as a teacher and eventually became its Vice-Chancellor. He published many scholarly books in Urdu language and English on history of India and Indian literature.

Mujib wrote eight Urdu plays on political, cultural, and historical issues, including a children`s script about theatre, Ao drama karen or "Let`s Do a Drama" in 1941. Although competent, they suffer from a lack of understanding of practical theatre. Their main interest lies in their upholding the ideals of rationalism, secularism, and nationalism in the communally charged atmosphere of pre-Partition of India. His first play, Kheti or `Harvest` in 1931, is a patriotic social drama in realist mode seeking to expose the opportunism of religion-based politics. Anjam or "Outcome" in 1934 satirizes superstitious practices and misuse of faith. The historical Khanajangi or "Civil War" in 1946 and Habba Kfiatim in 1951 revolve around the wisdom of keeping religion and politics separate.

Mohammed Mujib died in 1985.
