Moga District, an administrative district of Punjab, was formed in the year 1995. Moga District has a huge population and it is in the 11th position as far as its population density is concerned.

Moga District, PunjabMoga District is the 17th district of Punjab. It came into existence on 24th of November, 1995. Initially, Moga was a sub-division of Faridkot District. Moga town is the administrative headquarters of Moga District. Area of Dharamkot block with around 150 villages has been emerged in Moga district under state government notification. Moga District spreads over an area of 2230 sq kms which comes to around 4.42 percent of the state.

Location of Moga District
Moga District stretches between longitude 75 degree 15 minutes and 75 degree 25 minutes east and latitude 30 degree 35 minutes and 31 degree 15 minutes north. Moga District falls under the jurisdiction of Ferozepur division. Its boundaries touch the boundaries of Jalandhar district in north, Ludhiana district in East, Sangrur district in South and Faridkot and Ferozepur districts in West.

Demography of Moga District
By the provisional figures of 2001 census Moga District ranks 11th within Punjab with a population of about 886313, which is 3.65 percent of the total population of the state. There are 883 females per thousand male in Moga district by census 2001. Moga District, PunjabAlthough rate of population growth is low but the density of population has increased, which is 400 per sq km. as compared to 351 by 1991 census. In Moga District 63.94 percent population is literate, where the rate for male and female literacy is 68.40 percent and 58.96 percent respectively.

Administration of Moga District
Administration of Moga District includes three Sub-Divisions - Moga, Baghapurana and Nihal Singh Wala. Deputy Commissioner is the head of district administration. He is the Chief Revenue Officer and is responsible for collection of revenue and other government dues recoverable as arrears of Land Revenue. He also deals with the Natural Calamities. The District Magistrate is the head of the Criminal Administration of the district. District Magistrate is thus responsible for the maintenance of Law and Order within the limit of his jurisdiction. Deputy Commissioner is assisted by Additional Deputy Commissioner and Sub-divisional officers in his day-to-day working.

Moga district has the proud of being the birth place of Lala Lajpat Rai, the great freedom fighter. His native village Dhudhike falls in Moga District. There are several religious and historical Gurudwaras, like Mehdeyana Sahib, Dina Sahib and Takhtupura. Geeta Bhawan a great temple is located at the south of Moga city. Further, Moga has parks known as Kashmiri Park, Nehru Park and Shahidi Park which adds to the beauty of Moga District. These places are worth seeing.
