Madan Mohan Lakhera is the former Governor of the state Mizoram of India. Since July 2006 he had held the post. Prior to that, he had also served as the governor of the Union Territory of Puducherry from 2004 to 2006. It should be noted that the fist file which he has signed in Puducherry was on carrying out the Rs. 5.5-crore free rice scheme to cover families under the poverty line and to acquire land for allotment of sites to landless people. From February 2006 to December 2006, he has also served as the acting governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Early Life of M.M.Lakhera
On 21st October, 1937, M.M.Lakhera was born at village Jakhand, Patti Barjula, tehri Garhawal to father late shri Jaya Nand Lakhera and mother Kalawati. His father was a pioneering figure in the field of education in the princely state of Tehri Garhwal. He received his early education at the primary school at Jakhand. Then after he went to the Rastriya Indian Military College. Dehra Dun. Conversantly, he was taking training at the National Defense Academy Khadakvasla, Pune. On 8th June 1958, he was commissioned in the Army from Indian Military Academy, Dehra Dun.

Career of M.M.Lakhera
M.M.Lakhera has taken part in Goa operation in 1961, Indo-Pakistan War in 1965 and 1971 in Jammu and Kashmir. The Defense Services Staff College at Wellington (South India) and the Long Gunnery Staff Course at School of Artilley was also attended by him. He has an enormous experience in handling counter insurgency operation. He has also served as the Deputy Commander of a Brigade in Manipur during 1981-82. He took over command of a Brigade at Kanpur, on promotion to Brigadier. During the `Blue Star` operation in Punjab during 1984, this formation took part and also provided effective aid to the civil authority at Kanpur during the 1984 riots. He was awarded Chief of army Staff Commendation Card two times in recognition of his successful handling of these operations on 15th January 1985 and 15th August 1985.

After that he was posted in Kashmir as the Sub Area Commander. M.M.Lakhera, along with the responsibilities of logistic support to forward troops, was given the duties of aid to civil authority in the Valley. He was conferred the Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India on 26th January, 1990 for his efforts in performing varied tasks with dedication, sympathy and professional proficiency. In March 1990, he was promoted to the post of Major General and became the chief of staff of Kashmir valley based corps Headquarters. His prodigious leadership and passionate involvement towards his orbits beyond the call of duty, was honored `Ati Vishisht Seva Medal` by the President of India on 26th January 1991.

In September 1992, he was promoted Lt. General and was posted as the Chief of Staff of Headquarters Central Command. In the upshot of Ayodhya incident in December 1992, he was given the duties for coordinating `aid to civil authority` in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa. Thereafter, he was posted as the Chief of Staff of headquarters northern command to deal with the impulsive insurgency in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
