Dahanukar College was established by the Parle Tilak Vidyalaya Association in the year 1960. The college is a co-ed institute and gets grant-in-aid from the Government of the State. M.L. Dahanukar College has more than 1700 students and has been graded "B+" by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Dr. (Smt.) Madhavi Pethe is the current principal of the college and is recognised by the U. G. C. under section 2 (f) and 12 (b) of the University Grants Commission Act of 1956

Objective of M.L. Dahanukar College
The main objective of M. L. Dahanukar College is to impart proper and quality education to the children and youth of the city of Mumbai, specifically those who reside in and near Vile Parle as a well as the suburbs of the neighbouring area.

History of M.L. Dahanukar College
M. L. Dahanukar College of Commerce was founded on June 1960. Initially, the College was named as Parle Commerce College, as the Parle Tilak Vidyalaya Association established the college. But in 1961, the college came to be known as Mahadev Laxman Dahanukar College of Commerce, mainly because of the fact that a huge sum was generously donated by the Dahanukar Industrial House. M. L. Dahanukar College of Commerce was the first commerce college of Mumbai.

Courses of M.L. Dahanukar College
There are 8 separate departments in M. L. Dahanukar College of Commerce, namely Commerce, Economics, Accountancy, Business Law, Statistics and Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Psychology and Business Communication. Optional subjects are also offered to the students of both B.Com and M.Com. Furthermore the college provides career oriented courses like Bachelor of Commerce, in Finance and Accounts and Bachelor of Management Studies.

Post Graduate Diploma courses are also offered by M. L. Dahanukar College for the betterment of the students such as Business Management, Financial Management, Marketing Management, Human Resource Development and Material Management.

Facilities of M.L. Dahanukar College
The library of M. L. Dahanukar College of Commerce is adequately large, which contains around 45,000 books and subscribes to 30 journals and periodicals. The college also offers book-bank facility to help the economically challenged students. Other than books the library also provides Internet facility and audio-visual cassettes reference for the aid of the students.

There is also a computer laboratory which is open from morning to evening. Few departments such as Business Management and Mathematics and Statistics, consists of separate computers for the students of respective streams.

M. L. Dahanukar College of Commerce also provides state of the art sports facilities to its students. The college has a huge sports field along with a gymkhana and encourages both indoor and outdoor sports. Numerous students have also participated in intercollegiate & regional levels sporting events. Moreover there is also an auditorium, a canteen and cafeteria in the college premises.

The annual festival of M. L. Dahanukar College, Zunj, organised every year, has become much renowned in the city of Mumbai, as it represents the spirit and will to triumph over hurdles and adversaries. The festival comprises of several cultural and sporting activities.

M. L. Dahanukar College of Commerce is amongst the most esteemed and respected colleges in the Vile Parle area of Mumbai that aims at providing quality education to the children of the nearby areas and prepare them as responsible citizens of the country.
