Mitraya was a scholar of Sutra and teacher of the Puranas.

As stated in Hindu mythology, Mitraya was a scholar of Sutra and teacher of the Puranas. He is said to be the composer of few Sanhitas, hymns and prayers. Mitraya`s Sanhitas were later collected into the Vishnu Purana.

Mitraya is also the name of the son of Divodasa. Divodasa was the name of a tribal king in the Rig-Veda. The group of Maitreya Brahmans descended from Mitraya.
