Mirai Chatterjee is a prominent social worker who is associated with SEWA, an organization working for the welfare of poor and self employed women. She also works for several other social organizations and has authored numerous publications.

Mirai Chatterjee, Indian Social ActivistMirai Chatterjee is a social worker and coordinator at Self Employed Women`s Association (SEWA), a self-employed women`s association of India which is a trade union working for poor self employed women workers of the country, at Ahmedabad. In June 2010, she was appointed as a member of National Advisory Council. She also works as the Director of Social Security at SEWA and is responsible for the institute`s insurance programmes, child care and health care. Presently, Mirai Chatterjee is designated as the Chairperson of the National Insurance Vimo SEWA Cooperative Ltd and of Lok Swasthya health cooperative. SEWA promotes both of these cooperatives. Mirai Chatterjee is also known to be an articulate spokeswoman.

Mirai Chatterjee has graduated from Harvard University in Science and History. She did her post graduation from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, U.S.A. In the year 1984 she joined SEWA as its General Secretary. Apart from SEWA, Mirai Chatterjee also works with the Boards of a number of prominent Indian organizations such as the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), the Friends of Women`s World Banking (FWWB) and others. She is also a part of the Advisory Group of the National Rural Health Mission. She has also worked with National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganized Sector as an advisor. In addition to this, she has also served the World Health Organization`s Commission on the Social Determinants of Health as a Commissioner.

She is also recognized for her publications pertaining to health care in India, social protection of women, organizing and empowerment of women workers etc. Mirai Chatterjee is accredited for authoring the SEWA Academy publication "Impact of Implementing the CDS through Sangini Childcare and Workers` Co-operative", along with Renana Jhabvala and Mita Parikh, which was published in the year 1996.
