Minjur is a town located in Thiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a well-developed town which comprises more than 20 villages around it. The town is also known as “Vada Kanchi†in North Kanchipuram. The town has two famous temples dedicated to Gods like Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.
Geography of Minjur
Minjur is located at 13.27 degree north to 176 degree North latitude and 80.27 degree 176 East longitude. It has an average elevation of 11 metres above sea level. The town is located at a distance of 25 kms from north of Chennai. Minjur is bounded by Ponneri at its north, Cholavaram on its west, Manali New Town, Manali and Thiruvottiyur on its south. It is a part of the Ponneri taluk.

According to the Population Census in the year 2001, Minjur had a population of 23,947. The males constitute 50 percent of the population and females 50 percent. Minjur has an average literacy rate of 77 percent, higher than the national average of 59.5 percent. The male literacy is 84 percent, and female literacy is 71 percent. In Minjur, 10 percent of the population is under 6 years of age.

Minjur is a well developed town and one of the suburban places of Chennai. Education, industrialization and agriculture have developed to a great extent here. Minjur desalination plant set up in 31st July, 2010 supplies almost 100 million litres of water per day to Chennai city. Minjur is also a key residential area for many years for Union Employees of Hinduja Group Companies located in Ennore District and Tamil Nadu Electricity board Employees.
