Meera Das started exhibiting her potentiality from her childhood in the tradition old art form Odissi. She paved her way towards success with her tireless endeavor and dedication. As she believes "by adhering to our rich Odissi culture, we can bring about developments of the long neglected dance form and work upon spreading Odissi Dance in all parts of the globe". Therefore she waved a call to all the contemporary classical dancers with the aim of elevating the tradition old dance form Odissi. For her it can be made possible only by spreading the light of knowledge on Odissi.
Meera Das throughout her career has received many rave reviews on her performances, sometimes rare ones. Critics and her audiences have also praised her performances as `authentic renderings of the great Indian classical dance-Odissi`. At the tender age, as a child artist she made her impression in the `Bandha Nrutya`, which is a folk dance that involves athletic movements. Guru Gangadhar nayak trained her in the dance form. Meera Das has a profound love for music, which ultimately led her to the Odissi Research Centre. Talent, which is inherent in Meera Das was shaped under the great tutelage of legendary maestro of Odissi dance, Padmabhusan Kelucharan Mohapatra and Guru Gangadhar Pradhan.
Acknowledging her talent Meera Das has been conferred several honors. To name a few, Doordarshan Kendra has honored her as the `A` grade artist and Indian Council of Cutural Relation has also empanelled her as the established category artist. In the year 1999, she has been conferred the `Dancer of young generation` by the Odissa Dance Academy.
In the next year 2000, Abhinandanika, Puri, has awarded her. She has also been conferred the `Odissa Prativa` by Cuttack surkhya committee in the year 2001. In the year 2002, she has been felicitated by Shree Syama Sunder Seva Trust, Cuttack. Odissi Research Foundation in the year 2002, by the hands of Guru Pankaj Charan Das felicitated Meera Das with the 8th Mahari Award. In the year 2002, she has been honored as Urvasi by the Keonjhar Sahitya Sanskruti Kala Pratisthana. She has also received the 5th Babita Smriti Samman in the year 2002. The Nritya Samman and the Ruchi Kala Samman, both the awards have been conferred to her in the year 2002.
Meera das has performed in many highly esteemed festivals in India. In the year 1990, she has performed in North Korea with the sponsorship by the Indian council for Cultural Relations. She has also performed in the Indian festival held at Germany in the year 1992. Meera Das has also executed her dance in the Festival of Kalinga Bali Yatra held in Indonesia in the year 1993. She has travelled in the countries like Singapore, China, Luxembourg, France, Italy, Spain, Czech republic, Hungary and Muscat other than Korea, Germany and Indonesia.
This fully focused Odissi dancer is continuously striving to spread the cultural values and for that she already has taken some relevant steps. She has established her institution, Gunjan Dance Academy. Through her organization she spreads the knowledge on the Odissi dance and Music. Meera considers herself as the blessed artist into the domain of Odissi dance.
