Meenakshi Sundaram Pillai was a renowned Tamil scholar who began his career as a Tamil teacher.

Meenakshi Sundaram Pillai was a Tamil scholar. He was the teacher of U. V. Swaminatha Iyer who is also a Tamil scholar and researcher. Initially he was a teacher and trained many students in Tamil literature.

He wrote Kuchelopakyam and the Suta Samitha. His first publication came out in 1842. His contribution to Tamil studies as well as Shaiva Agamas is remembered till today. He left behind a treasure of Tamil palm leaf manuscripts. He died in 1876.

Sthala Puranas comprises of ninety six minor literary genres of Tamil which gained prominence after16th century. It is believed that he composed ninety Sthalapuranas about various temples.
