Massanjore, JharkhandMassanjore is a city near the Jharkhand-West Bengal border. Massanjore is mostly popular for the presence of the Massanjore dam on the Mayurakshi River, which is located in the Dumka district of the Indian state of Jharkhand. Massanjore Dam
The Massanjore dam is also renowned as "Pearson Dam" or "Canada Dam", across the Mayurakshi River. The project for the dam was commissioned in the year 1956 with assistance from Government of Canada. The dam was officially inaugurated by Lester B. Pearson, the Foreign Minister of Canada. The Massanjore dam was not permitted to contain a flood reserve. Along with the construction of the Dam, the State Government selectively took over flood control embankments in the year 1956. Canada devoted the amount from the counterpart Rupee fund, created through supplies of wheat and other materials from Canada, for the further development of the Mayurakshi Dam project. The dam is 155 feet in height from its base and is about 2,170 feet in length. The reservoir consists of an area of 16,650 acres and a storage capacity of 500,000 acre feet.

Visiting Information of Massanjore
Massanjore is almost 31 km from Dumka in the state of Jharkhand and is around 45 km from Suri in the state of West Bengal. Daily bus services, as well as rented car facilities are available for the convenience of the tourists to reach Massanjore from Suri. Moreover Massanjore can also be reached from Bolpur which is around 48 km away. Bus services provided by the Jharkhand State Transport Corporation regularly leave from Babughat in Kolkata for Massanjore.
