Martam, SilkkimMartam in East Sikkim is the destination for the week end trip. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city life, Martam offers a calm and quite refuge to the tourists. Martam is known for its breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys and exotic array of flora and fauna.

Martam is known for its lush vegetation and the majestic views of the Mountains, quaint villages, nature walks and forests harbouring thousands of birds, butterflies and orchids. Martam and its surrounding areas are excellent locations to view birds and butterflies. The place truly offers visual splendour to the naturalists.

The most popular destinations near Martam are the Rumtek Monastery and Sang monastery. One can visit the Rumtek Monastery, located around 6 km from Martam. There is also the Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden, near the monastery. The Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden is located at the Rumtek, Sikkim, just 24 kilometres away from Gangtok. This is very close to world famous Rumtek Monastery. The best time to visit this botanical garden is March to late May and October to mid December. Then one can also visit the Sang Monastery, located in a village town called Sang, 6 km away from the village. The serene surrounding of the village is ideal for conducting meditation, retreat or religious courses.
