Marjoram OilOriginally from the Mediterranean region, the word Origanum is from the Greek word `oreganos` meaning `joy of the mountain` and was given to newlyweds as token of good fortune. This is a small plant found in the eastern Mediterranean countries, southern Europe and North Africa. The therapeutic properties of marjoram oil are analgesic, anti-spasmodic, anti aphrodisiac, antiseptic, antiviral, bactericidal, carminative, cephalic, cordial, diaphoretic, digestive, diuretic, expectorant, fungicidal, hypotensive, laxative, nervine, sedative, vasodilator and vulnerary.

Most popular these days the Marjoram oil, acts as an anti-aphrodisiac. It also works well with tension. Since it does not have a pleasant smell, it can be masked with lighter flowery scents such as Lavender, Champa and Citrus, when making a blend for migraines and muscle pain. It can be useful for sinus congestion, indigestion and gas. A dilator of blood vessels, it can stimulate menstruation and should not be taken during pregnancy. Marjoram oil is non-toxic, non-irritant and non-sensitizing but should not be used during pregnancy.
