Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Abishekapatti, Tamil NaduManonmaniam Sundaranar University is situated at Abishekapatti on Tirunelveli-Tenkasi Road, Tamil Nadu. The University was established in the year 1990 under the provision of act no.31, 1990 of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. The University was named after the great writer P. Sundaram Pillai. The University Grant commission has recognized the University. The jurisdiction of the University extends to the districts of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari. There are 80 affiliated colleges to the University, which include two constituent colleges. The University has three campuses at Abishekapatti, Alwarkurichi and Rajakkamangalam.

The University offers M.A, M.Sc, M.E,M.Tech ,MBA,MCA ,M.Phil Ph.D programmes in various disciplines through 26 departments. The major departments are Tamil Studies, English, Communication, commerce, Economics, Education, Sociology, History, Information Technology and Engineering, Geo-technology, Marine Science and Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Library and Information Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Criminology and Criminal Justice and Management studies.

The university offers various courses in the field of aquaculture, fishing and agriculture in its Alwarkurichi campus. Courses in Marine Sciences and Technology are offered at Rajakkamangalam campus. The University also offers diploma courses through community college and several courses through distance learning mode.
