Manek Burj is the foundation bastion of the Bhadra Fort, which is located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The bastion was named after Maneknath, a 15th century legendary Hindu saint, who interrupted and helped Ahmed Shah I to build the Bhadra Fort in the year 1411. Chandan and Rajesh Nath perform puja and hoist flag on Manek Burj on the foundation day of the city and on Vijayadashami every year. Chandan and Rajesh Nath are the 13th generation descendants of saint Maneknath.
History of Manek Burj
Manek Burj was laid on 26th February 1411 by Ahmed Shah I. The bastion is 53 feet in height with a stepwell in it, which is known as Manek Kuva and it is 77 feet round. As the Sabarmati River changed its course, the stepwell became dry and then it was filled again in 1866. There was a water channel near the bastion, which brought water for the royals in the past.
