In the Hindu mythology, Mandehas is said to be the beasts who tried to demolish the sun. It is believed Mandehas are three crores in number.
The night, Usha and the day is denominated by Vyushta. The interval between the day and night is called Sandhya. On the occurrence of the awful Sandhya, the Mandehas do their utmost to devour the sun. Lord Brahma denounces this curse upon these terrific fiends, that without the power to perish they should die every day and revive by night. Hence a violent contest occurs daily between them and the sun.
