Strategically situated on NH 16, Mancherial is a small city situated in Adilabad district of the southern state of India, Andhra Pradesh. It is located in the east of Lakshettipet at a distance of 24 km. and in the northeast of Karimnagar at a distance of 66 km. It lies in the south of Tandur at a distance of 32 km. The other neighboring towns are Ramagundam and Belampalli. The airport is at Hyderabad and the Mancherial Railway Station on the Kazipet - Tandur rail route of South Central Railways is the nearest railway station.

Geographically, the town is located between 18.8667° North latitude and 79.4333° East longitude at an altitude of 142 meters (469 feet) above mean sea level.

According to the Indian Census report of 2001, Mancherial has a population of 70,231. Males comprises of 51% of the population and females account for the remaining 49%. In Mancherial, 13% of the population is less than six years of age. The average literacy rate of Mancherial is 65% which is higher than the national average literacy rate which is 59.5%. To be specific, the male literacy rate is 72% and the female literacy rate is 57%. Some excursion sites can be made to Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary, Shivaram Wildlife Sanctuary and the pilgrim site of Dharmapuri.
