Malout is a small city situated in the Muktsar district of the northern Indian state of Punjab. This town is located in the south of Muktsar at a distance of 40 km. It is strategically located on the junction between NH 10 and NH 15. The Amritsar Airport and the Malout Railway Station on the Bhatinda Abohar rail route are the nearest `access points`. Rupana and Bhundar are the neighboring towns of Malout.

Located in the southern part of Punjab, Malout is known for its agro-based industry. According to the Indian Census report published in 2001, Malout had a population of 70, 958. Males` account for 54% of the population and females comprises of 46% of the population. In Malout, 13% of the population is less than six years of age. The average literacy rate of Malout is 63%, which is higher than the national average literacy rate, which is 59.5%. Out of it, the male literacy rate is 68% and the female literacy rate is 57%.
