They are mainly found in Peermede hills and Idukki District of Kerala. A huge concentration of these Malayarayan tribes is found in the tribal settlement in Plakkathadam. There are quite a number of people who identify these Malayarayan tribes as Malai Arayan, Malayarayar etc.

In fact it has been rightly observed by all the anthropologists of the Indian subcontinent that these Malayarayan have maintained uniqueness in socio- economic and also in educational perspectives.These Malayarayan is one of the scheduled tribes of the whole of the Indian subcontinent. Since maximum of these Malayarayan tribes have adapted to Hinduism as their main religion, it is only natural that these Malayarayan tribes follow all the customs and norms quite enthusiastically. The hereditary rites and rituals as practiced by all the Renegades and several other conventional Hindu tribal communities are being practiced by quite a handful of these Malayarayan tribes.

The Malayarayan tribes have secured tremendous achievements in the field of education and academics. After conducting numerous surveys and research works about the prospect of employment and education, it has been rightly found that this majority of people who are employed in the several Government offices belong to the community of Malayarayan tribes.
