Maithili Sharan Gupta was the pioneer of Khari Boli poetry in India and his most popular works comprises of Saket and Yashodhara.

Maithili Sharan GuptaMaithili Sharan Gupta was amongst the most significant contemporary Hindi poets. Gupta was regarded as one of the pioneers of Khari Boli, which means simple dialect, and wrote several Khari Boli poems, when other Indian poets preferred using Brajbhasha. After Indian independence in the year 1947, Gupta became the honorary member of the Rajya Sabha. Maithili Sharan Gupta was renowned to use his poetic words for expressing his opinions.

Early Life of Maithili Sharan Gupta
Maithili Sharan Gupta was born on August 3rd, 1886 in Chirgaon, Jhansi to the parents Seth Ramcharan Gupta and Kashi Bai. He was not very fond of school as a young boy, thus Maithili Sharan Gupta was educated at home and was taught in Sanskrit, English and Bengali education in his childhood, by his teacher Mahavir Prasad Dwivedi.

Career of Maithili Sharan Gupta
Maithili Sharan Gupta started writing poems in Hindi from a very young age. Gupta wrote for several magazines including Saraswati, which was a popular magazine at that time. His famous work Rang Mein Bhang was published in 1910 by the Indian Press. During Indian Freedom Struggle his nationalist poems like, Bharat Bharati became popular to patriot. After that Gupta started writing poems based on mythological stories like Ramayana, Mahabharata. Maithili Sharan Gupta also wrote poems based on the lives of religious leader.

His famous work Saket is based on the epic Ramayan. He established Urmila, wife of Lakshmana as a protagonist though she is lesser known character of the epic. The actual meaning of Saket is Ayodhya, the capital of Rama Chandra. He used different kinds of pure Hindi language (Khari Boli) in this poem. Maithili Sharan Gupta`s famous work Yashodhara revolves around Yashodhara, the wife of the religious leader Gautama Buddha.

Maithili Sharan Gupta`s major poems are Bharat Bharati, Jayadrath Vadh, Vikat Bhat, Plassey ka Yuddha, Gurukul, Kisan, Panchavati, Siddharaj, Arjan-Visarjan, Kaaba-Karbala, Jayabharat, Dwapar, Jahush, Vaitalik, Kunal. He made translations of some famous literary work into Hindi. This includes Rubaiyats of Omar Khayyam and Sanskrit drama Swapnavaasavdatta. He also wrote some plays like, Tilottama, Chandrahaas .For this huge literary work Maithili Sharan Gupta was reckoned as the Rastra Kabi. He was given the honorary chair in the Rajya Sabha after independence.

Maithili Sharan Gupta died on 12th December in the year 1964.
