Mahishadal is situated in Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal. It is an administrative division of Haldia subdivision of the district. The block is served by Nandakumar and Mahishadal police stations. Rangibasan houses the headquarters of this block. The block spans over an area of 135.20 square kilometres. The place is famous for ancient monuments and temples built in 16th century. Mahishadal is also well known for its excellent sweet delicacies like `Chhanar Murki` and `Mihidana`.

Ramkrishna mission movement was started by Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa Dev in this serene and picturesque place.
