Mahalakshmi Temple is one of the most famous temples of Mumbai located in the northern side of Malabar hills. The temple includes the deity of three Hindu Goddesses namely Mahalakshmi, Mahakali and Maha Saraswati.

Mahalakshmi Temple, MumbaiMahalakshmi Temple is a celebrated temple of Devi Mahalaksmi which was constructed to appease the Goddess. The temple is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is dedicated to three Hindu goddesses which are Mahalakshmi, Mahakali and Maha Saraswati. Among them, goddess Mahalakhsmi is the principal deity of the temple. Mahalakshmi temple looks most attractive at the time of Navratri festival when the deities are adorned with special care that attracts millions of followers from all over India who stand in queue all night to worship the deities.

History of Mahalakshmi Temple
It is commonly believed that when the British architects were trying to expand the boundaries of Mumbai by joining the Malabar hills with Worli, they had to face repeated failures which could only be met by constructing the temple on the bank. It was believed that the contractor dreamt about the construction of the temple and its location. It was only after the construction of this temple that new areas of Mumbai could be constructed as a part of extension project of Mumbai city.

Decorations and Deities of Mahalakshmi Temple
The entrance of Mahalskhmi temple is ornately designed. One needs to climb a few 100 steps in order to get to the main shrine. The three deities of Mahalakshmi temple are decorated with nose rings, gold bangles and pearl necklaces and the deity Mahalakshmi is shown riding a tiger and a demon (Mahishasur) in tandem which depicts its power to defeat evils as an incarnation of Shakti.
