M. K. Narayanan, the former Governor of West Bengal, has served the Intelligence Bureau for a long time dealing with diverse issues.

M. K. Narayanan, Indian PoliticianM. K. Narayanan or Mayankote Kelath Narayanan is the former and 24th Governor of West Bengal. Previously, from the year 2005 to 2010, he also served as the third National Security Advisor of India. He took up this responsibility in the year 2005 after the demise of his predecessor Jyotindra Nath Dixit.

Early Life of M. K. Narayanan
M. K. Narayanan was born on 10th March 1934 at Ottapalam in the Palakkad district of the south Indian state Kerala to a Kelath family. He graduated from Loyola College situated in Chennai.

Political Career of M. K. Narayanan
M. K. Narayanan, in the year 1955, joined the Indian Police Service and passed out with the title of the best all-round officer of his batch. He worked as Sub-Divisional Police Officer for a brief period in the erstwhile state of Madras. In February 1959 he joined the Intelligence Bureau (IB) on deputation. Throughout his service career he worked under the Government of India, mostly in the Intelligence Bureau. He dealt with numerous issues regarding internal and national security while his days in the Intelligence Bureau. From 1987 to 1990 he led the Intelligence Bureau following which he headed the Joint Intelligence Committee. In 1991 he was once again appointed as the Chief of the IB and finally retired in the year 1992. He also worked as the Special Advisor for Internal Security to the Prime Minister of India in May 2004. M. K. Narayanan was designated as the Governor of West Bengal on 24th January 2010, succeeding Gopalkrishna Gandhi. In the year 2011 he was honoured with the Gusi Peace Prize. He resigned from the post on 30th June 2014.
