Lower Subansiri district is actually an administrative district of Arunachal Pradesh. The Lower Subansiri district occupies an area of 10,135 Sq. kms. China and Upper Subansiri District of Arunachal bound this district of Arunachal Pradesh on the North, by Papum Pare District of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam on the South, on the East by West Siang District and some part of Upper Subansiri and by East Kameng Districts of the state of Arunachal Pradesh on the West. On the northeast of Lower Subansiri district there is the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh. The height of this managerial district headquarters is 1500 meters above sea level. The administration of the Lower Subansiri district is a single line administration. The main aim of the administrative set up is to keep close co-operation within the various developmental departments of the district for the overall development of its infrastructure and its people.
History of Lower Subansiri district
The origin of the name of Lower Subansiri district is the Subansiri River. By the Government of India Notification of 1914, the area covered by this administrative district of Arunachal Pradesh became a part of Lakhimpur Frontier Tract of the "North East Frontier Tract". Further, in the year 1954, Subansiri Area was renamed as "Subansiri Frontier Division" with its Headquarter was transferred to a place in Arunachal Pradesh known as Ziro. In the year 1980, on 13th of May, the Subansiri District was bifurcated into Lower Subansiri district and Upper Subansiri District.
