Previously, it was known as `Borjhar Airport`, now it is known as Guwahati International Airport. Airports Authority of India manages the airport and is the principal international airport of the North-Eastern States of India. It also serves as an Indian Air Force base. The airport has been named after the first Chief Minister of Assam, Gopinath Bordoloi.

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is equipped with advanced amenities, facilitating the passengers. It possesses helicopter services. It has two terminals. Terminal 1 handles the domestic flight services with direct linking flights to about 10 Indian cities. The domestic terminal can handle 500 passengers in peak hour traffic. Terminal 2 is the international terminal and has a total capacity of 125 passengers. The terminals have 14 check-in counters, one custom counter and four immigration counters. The airport has a handicraft emporium of Assam as a souvenir as well as jewellery shops, cafes, internet centres and a tourist information centre.
