Latpanchar, Darjeeling, West BengalLatpanchar is a tourist attraction site in Darjeeling in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is located at a height of 4,500 ft from sea level. It is situated at a distance of 13 kilometers from Kalijhora. It is the highest point in the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary. The main attractions of this place include deep forest, Cinconha plantation, Ahal View Point and discovering the natural habitat of the endangered Himalayan Salamander.

The beauty of this place lie in its picturesque location adorned with mesmerizing lush greenery of the surrounding areas. Nestled away from the hustle bustle of city life, it is home to dense forests and Cinconha plantation. Here one can explore Latkothi and Mana Hills. Latkothi is a Forest Department bungalow which is enveloped by the vast stretch of Cinchona plantation. The way to the cinchona field, which is lined with a long array of sal, pine and teak trees, is ideal for morning walk.

There is a small lake named Namthing Pokhri in this place which is one of the last natural habitats of the famous Himalayan Salamanders. Near Pokhri there is an ancient Buddhist monastery and a view point from where one can enjoy the amazing views of Mt. Kanchenjungha. Then there is another view point named Ahal View Point which provides glimpses of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Dooars, Terai plains and the Teesta River.

The main nearby attractions of this place are Mongpoo and Sitong. Mongpoo is home to the famous house of the legendary poet Rabindranath Tagore. It is an ideal place for the literature lovers. Those who are fond of nature can explore Sitong as it is famous for its orange orchards and natural beauty.

Visiting Information of Latpanchar
The ideal time to explore Latpanchar is between October and April as during this time, the weather becomes pleasant. In terms of accommodation, it has established wood cottage home stay. These cottages are equipped with facilities such as wall to wall carpet, electricity, hot water and western attached toilet. Home cooked food can be availed in these cottages.

Connectivity to Latpanchar
Latpanchar can be connected via railway and roadway. It is situated approximately 41 kilometers from Siliguri from where one can easily avail car or taxi service. The nearest railway station is located at New Jalpaiguri. One has to take NH 31A and reach Sevoke just 22 km away. From Sevoke, one has to reach Kalijhora and then take left turn by leaving NH 31A and then a few kilometers" drive will take one to the destination.
