Lalitpur is a city situated in the Lalitpur district of the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of the Lalitpur district in the southern part of the state. It is situated in the south of Jhansi at a distance of 90 km. The nearest airport is at Gwalior at a distance of 235 km. and the nearest airport is the Lalitpur Railway Station on the Bhopal-Jhansi line. The N H 26 passes through this city. It is located between 24.68° North latitude and 78.42° East longitude at a height of 428 metres (1404 feet) above mean sea level.

It is believed that the town was named after Lalita the wife of the southern king, who built this town. Tanning saw milling; soap making and shoe making are some of the prominent industries of the city. Prime attractions in the vicinity includes the Govind Sagar Dam and the towns of Chanderi and Deogarh.

The Indian Census Report of 2001 states that Lalitpur had a population of 111,810. Males and females account for 53% and 47% of the population. In Lalitpur, 16% of the population is less than six years of age. The census report also puts forward the literacy rate of the city which is essential to identify the status of the population. The average literacy rate of this town is 65% which is higher than the national average literacy rate which is 59.5%. Out of it, the male literacy rate is 73% and the female literacy rate is 56%.
