More specifically, this college is situated in the metropolitan city of Mumbai at Haji Ali. This college is affiliated to the University of Mumbai and is named after Lala Lajpat Rai. Lala Lajpat Rai is recognized as a leader in the Indian Independence movement and a member of the Lal Bal Pal tri organization. He is also known as an Indian Punjabi author and politician. He was popularly known as Punjab Kesari.

Vision, Mission and Objectives of Lala Lajpat Rai College
The vision of Lala Lajpat Rai College is to provide comprehensive education which will train the students to become globally competitive and socially responsible citizens. Their mission is to provide education and training to students in the field of commerce, trade, management and information and technology (IT). More specifically, this college would make it"s students fit and ready to handle the challenges of the industry, would amalgamate academia with industry for building relevant knowledge, skill and attitude in the students and most importantly, would make the students socially sensitive with high sense of civility. The objective of this institution is to develop holistic approach towards education and encourage research and allied activities.

History of Lala Lajpat Rai College
In the year 1959, Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Trust was formed on the eve of the birth centenary celebration of Late Lala Lajpat Rai. The aim with which the trust was formed was to fulfill the objectives of Lala Lajpat Rai. Lalaji was interested in almost all the fields of activities contributing to the enrichment of national and social life, but it is known that education received prime importance from him. Thus, India"s third Prime Minister, late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri thought that the most appropriate way to commemorate the memory of the great patriot was to establish an institution of higher education.

The first step towards the establishment of Lala Lajpat Rai College was the allotment of a piece of land measuring about 26,000 square feet on a fairly nominal rent by Government of Maharashtra. Achievement of this piece of land is attributed to the efforts of Late Shri Yashwantrao Chavan. The construction of the present college building is attributed to the contribution made by the generous philanthropists and donations made by the trustees.

After the establishment of the Lala Lajpat Rai Institute, attention was shifted to the establishment of the Lala Lajpatrai College of Commerce and Economics.

Courses Offered by Lala Lajpat Rai College
Lala Lajpat Rai College provides varied courses to students. The different courses offered by this college are Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), Bachelor of Management Studies (B. M. S.), Bachelor of Mass Media (B. M. M.), Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance), Bachelor of Commerce (Banking & Insurance) (B.B.I.), B.Sc (Bachelor of Science) in Information Technology (IT), B.Sc in Computer science (CS) and Master of Commerce (M.Com).

Infrastructure of Lala Lajpat Rai College
Lala Lajpat Rai College has sound infrastructure. Infrastructure of this college comprises of an auditorium, two computer labs, a library, IT enabled classes, a counseling center, a gymnasium, a health center and a canteen. It therefore can be noted that the students of this college have ample facilities, which will ensure an all round development of the students.

The auditorium of the college is air conditioned and can accommodate near about 650 students. It is utilized to organize co-curricular activities and cultural programmes.

Library of Lala Lajpat Rai College
The library of Lala Lajpat Rai College is situated on the second floor of the building. This library is a storehouse of over 39000 books and has a collection of over 66 Periodicals. M.Phil. Dissertations, Ph.D. Theses and Project Reports submitted by faculty and students of the college are preserved in this library for reference, along with over 710 CDs and DVDs on various topics. This library is provided with a spacious reading hall and computers. Library catalogue is made available to the students through intranet. Students are given direct access to the bookshelves in the library. Handicapped students are given special attention and assistance for selection of books and periodicals. Library service is automated. The aim of the library is to provide information to students, so that they can attain their highest academic potential.

Canteen of Lala Lajpat Rai College
The canteen of Lala Lajpat Rai College is located on the ground floor of the college building and can accommodate about 100 students. This canteen provides various kinds of eatables and beverages to its students and staff members.

Counseling Center of Lala Lajpat Rai College
The counseling cell of Lala Lajpat Rai College is headed by a counselor named, Ms. Asha Agarwal. This cell imparts counseling services to both students as well as teaching and non-teaching staff from time to time whenever they approach the cell.

Gymnasium of Lala Lajpat Rai College
The gymkhana of Lala Lajpat Rai College started in the month of July, 2010 under the guidance of Professor. V. Pandit and Professor. N.S. Sankpal.

Health Center of Lala Lajpat Rai College
Lala Lajpat Rai College has an active health center that caters to the needs of both the students and the faculty members. Dr. Komal Jatania (M.B.B.S, DCH) is the consulting physician of this college. Some of the medical services offered by the college to its students, staff and society at large are eye checkup drive, blood donation drive, hepatitis checkup, thalassemia detection test and stem cell registration.

Extra Curricular Activities Offered by Lala Lajpat Rai College
Extra curricular activities offered by Lala Lajpat Rai College include summer school programmes, a festival called Tsunami, , industrial visits, techfests, an intra collegiate academic fest called prodigy, a media event called Mebido initiated by the BMM department, an event called siege which involves campus recruitment and mood fiest.

Placement Cell of Lala Lajpat Rai College
The placement cell of Lala Lajpat Rai College consists of the Student Committee on Placements (SCoP) from the first and the second year of PG programme. The placement office headed by Dean-Career Management Center acts as a central hub for all activities and is a repository of all information and resources.

Visiting Information
Lala Lajpat Rai College is located at a very short distance from Mahalaxmi Railway Station and is well connected to all parts of Mumbai by a number of bus routes.
