Lakshmi Jagar is a folk dance performed in the Madhya Pradesh state of India. This ceremonial ritual dance is practiced by the tribal youths to gratify Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. The term Jagar means awakening, waking up or awareness. The participants keep an idol of goddess Lakshmi under a Shemal tree and dance. This particular dance festival is performed for almost a month being enacted throughout the night only. At dawn all the dancers return to their homes only to reassemble in the evening.
