Lady Brabourne College, KolkataLady Brabourne College is one of the premier institutions for women`s education in India. The College was established in the year July 1939 and was named after the wife of Lord Brabourne, who was the Governor of Bengal till February 1939. The College started with thirty-five Muslim Students and nine faculty members in a rented house in Park Circus. The foundation stone of the building in which the present college is housed was laid on 26th August 1939 by Sir J. Woodhead, the then Governor of Bengal. Since then the College has expanded structurally and earned excellent academic reputation. The Brabourne College has celebrated its Diamond Jubilee on the 26th August, 1999.

The faculty of the college is dedicated and sincere who bring academic interests in the students. The college boasts for its consistent excellent results in the University examinations. So no compromise is made regarding teaching qualities. Teachers are also ready to support and encourage their students in other activities also. The teacher-student relationship is very cordial and informal which creates an environment that is beneficial for the overall growth and personality development of the student. Various seminars and workshops are the integral part of the departmental activities. Famous academicians and statesmen are associated themselves with the proceedings of this college.

Most of the teachers are engaged in research work at the doctoral and post-doctoral levels furthering their own education simultaneously. At present different UGC sponsored research projects are undertaken by different departments. In the Geography and Microbiology departments research scholars are employed in Ph.D programs under the guidance of the faculty members.

The Courses offered are- Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Economics, Geography in Science. Bengali, English, Hindi , Sanskrit, Persian, Urdu, History, Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology in arts.

There is an alumni association in the college, where the old students are expected to join. This association interacts regularly in various campus activities. Every year on 25th August present students facilitate their seniors and entertain them as the Old Students` Day is celebrated.
