Synopsis of the Indian movie `Kyun Ki`
The film tells the story of a young man named Anand played by Salman Khan who was deeply in love with a girl named Maya played by Rimi Sen and who he was about to marry. Maya always loved to play pranks on him. One such prank went absurdly wrong when Anand throws her in a water-filled pool without knowing that she could not swim. Maya dies and Anand feels himself guilty of killing her. Anand is actually charged for her murder. After Maya`s death Anand is completely shattered and begins to go crazy. He starts thinking that Maya dies because of his fault and starts loosing confidence in life. Eventually he becomes mentally unstable and goes for treatment in an asylum.

He is brought to Sir Richards Mental Sanatorium. His brother requests the doctors to admit him immediately. However, they insist on evaluating his mental condition before taking any decision. On being asked a few questions, Anand does not show any signs of insanity, and the doctors conclude that there is nothing wrong with him. They decline to admit him to the hospital. Just then, Anand spots a housefly on the table. He first tries to capture it in his palm, but it evades him. Meanwhile Anand`s elder brother is arguing with doctors to admit him. Within a fraction of second Anand is getting very violent, and is going hammer and tongs after the fly. He has picked up a club, and has smashed a few items in the hospital lobby. Finally, he manages to get his target, the fly. This convinces the doctors that he is indeed insane, and they finally agree to admit him. The fact behind his anger behind fly is when Maya was lying in a coffine one fly was there in her face. So seeing a fly reminds that incident to Anand and he becomes violent.

Anand gets admitted to Sir Richards Mental Sanatorium, and he now tries to makes friends with other inmates. The other inamtes are a bunch of comic characters. One of them claims to have bought the Taj Mahal, another claims to have a tree growing sweets, and so on. Kyun Ki , Indian Film This sets the scene for the entry of the chief doctor, Dr. Khurana played by Om Puri. In Sir Richards Mental Sanatorium patients are treated with aggression and force and this style of treatment has the approval of the hospital`s owner Dr. Khurana. He believes that mentally unstable patients should be treated likewise.

At the mental asylum, there are also other two main doctors, Dr. Sunil played by Jackie Shroff and Dr. Tanvi Khurana played by Kareena Kapoor. She is the daughter of dr. Khurana and has little sympathy for Anand. Dr. Sunil is in charge of Anand`s treatment. With a period of time, he begins to develop affinity towards Anand and learns from his diary of the horrible tragedy that led to his insanity. When Dr. Tanvi learns of Anand`s past, she is shaken deep inside and decides to nurse him back to normalcy. She takes best care of him and even supports him when he speaks against the aggression meted out to patients in the hospital. Sunil turns out to be Anand`s close childhood friend. Tanvi eventually falls in love with him. Tanvi starts to cure him and one day he is completely cured with the help of Tanvi and Dr. Sunil. He is normal now, and remembers everything. Anand decides to leave the asylum now. As soon as Tanvi finds out, she runs to Anand and expresses her love to him. He is surprised, but he apreciates her love and decides to stay. He falls in love with Tanvi too. They both are happy with each other. But there is a problem, Tanvi is engaged to someone named Karan played by Sunil Shetty whom her father approves of.

When Tanvi`s father, Dr. Khurana finds out about her love for Anand he is angered. He is strictly against Tanvi`s match with Anand. He tells Tanvi to forget about Anand and leave him. Tanvi refuses, and continues to love Anand. At that time Karan comes back to India. At first, Karan is unaware of Tanvi and Anand`s love for each other. But when Karan finds out, he tells Tanvi to go and live with Anand. Meanwhile at the asylum Anand explodes into a violent rage against Dr. Khurana which results in him being lobotomized by Khurana. Sunil and Tanvi arrive at the asylum in order to smuggle Anand out so that he and Tanvi can run away together, however it is too late as Karan finds out about Anand being lobotomized. Realising that Anand is much better off dead, Karan kills him by suffocating him. A concluding scene is shown in which Tanvi is now a patient at the asylum and has become insane due to the shock of the death of Anand.
